A mother who is allergic to water says that taking a shower or caught in the rain feels like someone has a lighter in her body ‘.
Kendall Bryce, 25, has aquagenic urticaria – a rare condition that makes her skin swell and explode in the hive whenever it comes into contact with water.
Mother a one, who is currently pregnant with her second child, says her life is “a daily war”-while she suffers from “teasing” pain whenever she tries to wash her hands or body.
It is also affected by the rainwater and very wet days, which means that her life is “dictated” by the weather, and even feels a “burnt” feeling when drinking water.
Doctors have so far been unable to find any drug that works for Kendall – and so she has been forced to continue to live her life in “exciting” pain.
She is now speaking in the hope that someone will be able to provide her with a long -term solution.
Kendall, from Durham, said: “It is actually a daily war. I can only take a bath or shower twice a week because of how much teasing the pain is – so I constantly worry that smells bad.
“My life is dictated by the weather as I have to avoid rain – and even hot damp days. I check the forecast every day and stay at home if it rains or it will rain.
“But if I get caught by surprise – my body reacts and is really painful.
“I’ve never been able to give a bath to my one -year -old son. My mother has to do it for me. And I even feel my throat burning when drinking water.”
Kendall says the pain has escalated in recent years – to the point that it becomes as bad as her body can go to shock.
She said: “When she started, she felt a little bit as if I was getting a stroke all over my body. But now it feels like someone has got a lighter in my body. It’s exciting.
“I’ll be in agony for about half an hour after washing – but feels like it’s two hours. I cry all. Actually actually as bad as my body can go to shock – so it’s dangerous.
“It means my mother has to sit with my son whenever I bath.”
Kendall first discovered her condition when she was 15 and began to explode in the hive whenever she came a bath.
Initially, she could treat her symptoms with pyrite – but over the years things moved.
The mother of staying at home said: “GP had no data on what to do. It is just such a rare situation – so not many people have it and not many people know about it. “
Kendall later referred to a dermatologist at the University Hospital of North Durham – who finally diagnosed it with aquagenic urticaria in 2021.
However, it is still to find any medicine that helps her condition.
She said: “They have tried many different medicines, but I kept reacting. I haven’t found something that helps yet.
“At the moment, there are only so many things I can try while I am pregnant. Once we are born, we will try more. But the thing is, doctors just don’t know what will help.”
Kendall hopes that in sharing her story she can find someone who knows how to treat.
She said: “I really hope an expert can contact and know what to do.
“At the moment, everything is quite degrading.
“I just want a normal life where I can get in the rain, shower and give my son a bath.”
